A survey data collector is responsible for gathering information by conducting surveys with individuals, either in person, over the phone, or online, following established protocols to ensure accurate and reliable data collection for research or market analysis purposes; this includes approaching potential respondents, administering survey questionnaires, recording responses, and maintaining data integrity throughout the process.

Key responsibilities:
  • Contacting respondents:
  • Reaching out to potential participants through various methods like phone calls, email, or in-person approaches to invite them to participate in the survey.
  • Administering surveys:
  • Clearly explaining survey questions, accurately recording responses on electronic or paper questionnaires, and following established data collection procedures.
  • Maintaining data quality:
  • Ensuring respondents meet eligibility criteria, verifying responses for consistency, and handling incomplete or ambiguous answers appropriately.
  • Following ethical guidelines:
  • Adhering to privacy regulations, respecting respondent confidentiality, and obtaining informed consent when necessary.
  • Data entry:
  • Accurately transferring collected data into designated software or databases.
  • Reporting and documentation:
  • Maintaining detailed records of survey activities, including contact attempts, response rates, and any issues encountered.
Required skills:
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to clearly explain survey questions, engage respondents, and build rapport.
  • Attention to detail: Meticulously recording accurate responses and maintaining data integrity.
  • Time management: Efficiently completing surveys within allotted timeframes and meeting deadlines.

Work environments:
  • Field research: Conducting surveys in person at various locations, such as homes, businesses, or public spaces.
